While the rest of MLS will kick off December with plenty of R&R following the climax of the playoffs, New York City FC will descend on Puerto Rico for a bit of a working vacation.
On December 11th, El Huracán Azul will play host to New York's own Azules in a post-season friendly.
NYCFC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna had this to say on the occasion of the announcement:
“We are looking forward to a competitive match and are excited to learn about the growing interest of soccer in Puerto Rico. We want to thank the Puerto Rican National Team for giving New York City FC the opportunity to play this match at the end of our historic first season as a Club.”
There will be plenty of storylines to follow when the Bronx Blues hit the Caribbean, with the grandest one centering upon goalkeeper Josh Saunders-- the Oregon native made two appearances for Puerto Rico in 2008.
Eric Labrador of Puerto Rico's football federation had this to say:
"It is a great opportunity for our Puerto Rican National Team to face, at home, a Club with players of such magnitude and recognition. In addition, it’s a great opportunity for our fans to enjoy the play of the most decorated, international trio in MLS history."
Tickets will be available beginning on October 5th. Stay tuned to Hudson River Blue for more info!
