Club Necaxa 2, Wilmington Hammerheads 1, NYCFC 0: Friendly follies in Aguascalientes

Some reasonable ambassadorial work from Kyle Parker. But the Pirlo chant was the real MVP.

Jesus Isijara and Rodrigo Prieto struck on either side of halftime as hosts Club Necaxa bested New York City FC in friendly action at the Estadio Victoria Friday night.

Wilmington Hammerheads striker Kyle Parker, one of four USL guys (Peabo Doue, Michael Mecham, Logan Miller) called up to wear the Etihad shirt on the night, cut one back for the visitors with an attractive hit in the 83rd minute.

Here’s how Patrick Vieira’s side lined up:

Johansen

Martinez—Mena—White—Lopez

Pirlo (Doue 73’)—Bravo—Mix (Parker 81’)

Ballouchy—Villa (McNamara 60’)—Shelton (Allen 59’)

Fun fact: When Villa came off, he passed the captain’s armband to Pirlo. When Pirlo came off, he handed it to Tommy McNamara.

Mikey Lopez had two dangerous looks just after the hour, with a threatening hit from Mehdi Ballouchy immediately following the second. None of the efforts quite found the target as NYCFC fans grew to embrace the virtues of this game — fitness, international diplomacy — that existed apart from the scoreline.

UP NEXT FOR NEW YORK CITY: An October 16th away date with D.C. United. The action touches off at 3:00pm ET on YES.
