This afternoon, Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl appeared on Fox Sports 1 to confirm that Major League Soccer’s Disciplinary Committee will not suspend New York City FC star man David Villa for a controversial kickout at Toronto FC’s Armando Cooper Sunday at BMO Field.

Wahl noted that the DisCo unanimously agreed that the incident warranted a red card, but they did not come to consensus on the second criterion for a suspension, per league regulations, that the kick was “egregious or reckless in nature such that the the Committee must act to protect player safety or the integrity of the game.”
Villa, who was announced today as one of three nominees for league MVP, will most certainly lead the line when New York City returns home this Sunday to host the second leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Toronto.
