David Villa named NYCFC MVP for 2016

Surprise!

Derik Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Hola, Guajito.

On the strength of 23 goals, four assists, and an unimpeachable competitiveness that lifted New York City FC to second place in the East and a first-ever playoff berth, David Villa was named his team’s Most Valuable Player for 2016.

Would you believe that he won the thing last year, too?

As El Guaje told NYCFC.com on the occasion:

“The most important thing about winning these awards is that my work for the club is adequate and it motivates me to keep working hard and to try and win the award once again next year. I would like to thank everyone at the club because without them I wouldn’t have won this title. I would like to share this with every person who works for the team and is part of the family at NYCFC.”

Villa led all New York City outfield players in minutes played, and notched his second straight MLS All-Star team appearance over the summer. He’s one of three finalists for the Landon Donovan MLS MVP Award, alongside New York Red Bull stars Sacha Kljestan and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Y’all tuned to the mafckn greatest.
