David Villa named to 2016 Major League Soccer Best XI

El Guaje is in good company on the annual MLS honor roll.

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of today’s announcement of the 2016 winner of the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award, David Villa made the league’s annual Best XI.

This marks the first time a New York City FC player has received the honor.

Villa was rampant this year. The skipper didn’t just bag 23 goals— he also learned English faster than most of us could bake a potato.

Our man is joined on the list by fellow MVP candidates Sacha Kljestan and Bradley Wright-Phillips of the New York Red Bulls, as well as 2015 MVP Sebastian Giovinco, who is set to lead Toronto FC into the MLS Cup Final this Saturday.

Check out the full list, with apologies to Ozzie Alonso, who is mysteriously absent:

GOALKEEPER: Andre Blake (Philadelphia)

DEFENDERS: Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Axel Sjoberg (Colorado), Jelle Van Damme (LA Galaxy)

MIDFIELDERS: Mauro Diaz (FC Dallas), Giovani dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Sacha Kljestan (Red Bulls), Ignacio Piatti (Montreal)

FORWARDS: Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto), Bradley Wright-Phillips (Red Bulls), ¡Daviiiiiiiiid Villaaaaaaaaaa!
