Fifty new soccer fields are coming to the Five Boroughs

Today in the Bronx, NYCFC brass joined up with Mayor Bill de Blasio, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and adidas to announce the New York City Soccer Initiative. Over the next five years, the initiative will oversee the construction of fifty new soccer fields in the city, with an emphasis on areas typically underserved by public resources and amenities. The four partners have committed to spend a total of $3 million for the initiative. The first eight field sites have been revealed-- two each in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, plus one each in the Bronx and on Staten Island. Said NYCFC President Jon Patricof: "We have seen through the work of our extensive community programs that soccer has the ability to change lives. This initiative will give access to pitches and help us deliver our programming to thousands of New York City school kids in every borough, and we are thrilled to be a part of it"
