At long last, we ring in the return of the SPHERICAL Podcast to Hudson River Blue.
SPHERICAL began as a very special limited engagement in February of 2015. Half investigative report, half ridiculous satire, the project sought out to tell the definitive story of the first proper scandal of New York City FC's short history: the Frank Lampard contractual saga.
It was an incredible amount of work, as most of SPHERICAL's segments were scripted word-for-word, and editing the thing was quite a tall task for a skeleton crew with zero production experience. But the final product was something that I remain incredibly proud of. There's nothing else like it, for better or for worse!
But on the heels of more classically-formatted conversation episodes with the likes of Ray Hudson (beIN Sports) and Stefan Szymanski (Soccernomics) published under the SPHERICAL brand here and there over these many months, we decided to revive the pod on a regular basis. Keep in mind that this is still a "soft opening"-- we're partnering up with a very impressive organization that has not only a love for NYCFC, but a desire to set us up with facilities, equipment, and a steady stream of compelling guests. Those logistics are being hammered out as you read this. The Grand Opening will be coming soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we'll be rolling out some DIY episodes, starting with today's conversation with Glenn Crooks, coach and broadcaster extraordinaire.
We spoke with Glenn via Skype from the Chelsea section of Manhattan earlier this week. We discussed NYCFC's rough defeat last weekend against New England, the particular state of the playing surface at Gillette Stadium, the race for the playoffs, and how to fix Patrick Vieira's defense.
