Jonathan Lewis, selected by New York City FC third overall in Friday’s MLS SuperDraft, can put another feather in his cap: he’s been called to join the United States Under-20 National Team’s January camp.
Lewis is one of three 2017 SuperDraft picks, along with Atlanta’s Miles Robinson and Portland’s Jeremy Ebobisse, set to join Tab Ramos’s squad as it prepares for February’s CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Costa Rica.
The tournament serves as the North American confederation’s qualifier for the U-20 World Cup. The Americans will begin their hunt for glory against Panama on February 10th.
Lewis had previously participated in the last year’s July camp for the U20s.
NYCFC went to great lengths to draft the talented attacking player, who arose as a major star man in his single year with the Akron Zips: Claudio Reyna & Co. sent $250,000 of General Allocation Money to Chicago in exchange for the #3 overall draft pick.
Without a doubt, US Soccer holds Lewis in similarly high regard. Good luck to ya, kid!
