Ronald Matarrita named to 2016 CONCACAF Men’s Best XI

ALL HAIL MATA— HE KILLS.

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps FC at New York City FC Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Who’s hotter than Ronald Matarrita right now? ...Well, I mean, besides Hansel...

The NYCFC man and Costa Rica international’s Q-factor has exploded over the last year. As multi-million dollar bids are rejected left and right for the “it-fullback” — and as rumors bubble over of Pep Guardiola fancying him as back line ambrosia for an increasingly stupefying Manchester City — this week brought still-more fame upon this veritable weapon of the gods.

On Wednesday, CONCACAF revealed its Male Best XI for 2016, with the 22 year old slotting into the left side of a back line featuring Premier League champ Wes Morgan, Mexican legend Rafa Márquez, and Porto man Miguel Layún.

Vancouver Whitecaps winger and fellow Tico Christian Bolaños is the only other MLS player to make the annual honor roll.

This most recent plaudit will only increase the international clamorings for Matarrita, a truth sure to have mouths fairly watering at former club LD Alajuelense, who still own half the value of Mata’s contract, and would therefore score half of any transfer fee paid for the player. But until the day comes that New York City fans are forced to bid farewell to the talented wide man, let’s squeeze as much juice out of every second that we can.

Let’s enjoy every virtuoso riff.

Let’s ride the damn Mata train.

All aboard, New York.
