Did you see that? DID YOU FUCKING CATCH THAT ACTION???
NYCFC’s newest goalkeeper, Sean Johnson, was wearing a number. NUMBER 1. Assuming it sticks, he’ll the be the first player in the team’s brief history to wear it. Historically, the number-1 shirt has been associated with the keeper, the first player listed on a proper squad sheet.
Johnson, a longtime Chicago Fire man with five caps for the U.S. National Team, arrived in the Five Boroughs in December courtesy of Atlanta United, who had swooped in for the player only to hold onto him about as long as the Marlins held onto Mike Piazza.
The 27 year old Georgia native ought to be entering the top of his prime, and though he isn’t known to have a penchant for the build-from-the-back style on which Patrick Vieira insists, the number-1 designation out to be met as a vote of confidence.
