American Messi and Arjie remain blue!

Following a prolonged period of seeing players departing or ousted from the Big Apple, New York City fans will be happy to hear that midfielder turned winger Tommy McNamara, as well as right back RJ Allen, have both inked new deals with City ahead of their 2017 campaign, as confirmed today by NYCFC’s official website.

Of signing a new deal with the club, McNamara told NYCFC.com, “When actions like these are taken it shows the faith and expectations placed on me and I’m fully on board to try to live up to them. I can’t wait to get back out playing at Yankee Stadium playing in front of our fans – it’s going to be great!”

‘Tommy Mac’ has become a cult hero among NYC fans, being lauded for his very high work rate on the pitch, his glorious hairdo (Mix who?), and his amazing ability to strike from distance.

Retaining RJ Allen is also a quality decision by NYC. Allen, who had 6 assists and a goal throughout the 2016 season, has proven to be a formidable attacking threat from the back in addition to being a solid defender. If Allen can stay in peak form, expect him and fullback companion Ronald Mataritta (HE’S OURS! YOU CAN’T HAVE HIM!) to give attackers and defenders alike tons of trouble in 2017.
