David Villa, Alex Ring among MLS MVP candidates

El Capitan and the Finnish Destroyer both are on the 53-man ballot

MLS: D.C. United at New York City FC Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Still pissed that New York City FC is practically homeless? Say no mare, fam!

MLS.com has released their list of all players eligable to win the Landon Donovan MVP trophy this year, and two familiar names are on the ballot.

David Villa and Alex Ring.

That’s right! The Spanish legend and the scrappy Finn are both up to be named MLS’s best.

Villa won the MVP award last year for his exceptional performance during the 2016 MLS season and would be the first player to win the trophy two years in a row should the voters rule in his favor.

Alex Ring is currently “Finn-ishing” (I’ll see myself out, thank you) his first ever season with NYCFC and has demonstrated to be an exceptional talent when it comes to his prescence in the defensive midfield. And a Most Valuable Player award to go with a stellar first campaign with a new club in a new league would be quite the achievement.

We at Hudson River Blue congratulate David Villa and Alex Ring on their nominations and hope that at least one of them are among the three finalists for the award come October 31st.
