New York City FC sign Swedish right back Anton Tinnerholm

He just won defender of the year too...

On Monday morning, Swedish news outlet Expressens reported that New York City FC signed reigning Allsvenskan defender of the year Anton Tinnerholm. Today, NYCFC announced that he will sign on a free transfer, pending a visa and ITC. This signing looks like a bargain for NYCFC; he scored five goals, while chipping in eight assists last season for Malmö FF. He has also appeared for the Swedish national team, and appeared in the Champions League in 2015-16. He will join NYCFC after the Swedish national team camp ends January 17.

Here is what the depth chart might look like:

It is assumed that he will be the starter, and hopefully he can combine well with Jack Harrison to make New York City very dangerous. At the very least, Tinnerholm certainly seems to be an upgrade over Ethan White and RJ Allen.

What do you think? Is this a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
