According to a report from HorseRaceInsider, Empire State Development is close to a decision on the Belmont Park bid — and apparently the New York Islanders will be awarded a new home back on Long Island. The report comes just a day after the Islanders and New York City FC became the final two bidders on the site when the third, Blumenfeld Development Group, dropped out.

The news should come as a relief to the many fans who were outraged by the prospect of moving the club out of the five boroughs. On the other hand, NYCFC are seemingly now back to square one and Yankee Stadium.

Officially, however, the Belmont Park situation is an ongoing process. The two teams are still set for their public meeting with Elmont, N.Y. officials this Sunday, Dec. 10, to propose their visions for the site.

More information is sure to come out over the next couple of weeks.
