We’ve sensed some malaise among New York City FC fandom about the lack of player signings that we might call ‘sexy.’ In the wake of Frank Lampard’s departure, plenty of us have wondered out loud who we would be able to rely on in 2017 to share the highlight reel with reigning MLS MVP David Villa.
Well, according to ESPN Mexico, we have something real to talk about. And that something is Frasquito: 29 year old Club Leon man Maxi Moralez.
The former Racing Club and Atalanta player is a skilled creator and crosser, and could figure to be for New York City what Nico Lodeiro is for Seattle. But wait— maybe that’s a lazy comparison... is there a better example out there?
Ah! A skilled, diminutive gamebreaker at the top of his prime? Experience in Serie A? Looking through the lens of MLS — and considering the utter destruction Seba has wreaked since arriving in Toronto — the mouth fairly waters.
Transfermarkt estimates Moralez’s market value at €3,000,000, and rates him primarily as a right winger, but with added ability to play up the middle or on the left. In MLS, he’d most likely take over the tip of the midfield.
Take a look at this cat’s touch:
Pace. Control. Vision. Guile. Folks, this looks like New York City FC’s third designated player.
Now... who’s gonna play defensive mid?
