The Boys in Blue of NYCFC have had a tough go at it over the course of this year’s Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Arizona. Patrick Vieira’s team has two losses to its credit, and just one goal scored between them. But today — the final scheduled preseason affair before the regular season opener in Orlando on March 5th — is a chance to hit the reset button in a big way.
Peter Vermes’s Sporting Kansas City stands in opposition this afternoon at Kino North Stadium. In two competitive meetings to date, New York City has yet to defeat the Wiz, but Vieira & Co. will be hoping that some long-awaited new blood will assert itself here and now. New signings Alexander Ring and Rodney Wallace, as well as Manchester City loanee Yangel Herrera, have all yet to see their first action of any kind in the famous Etihad shirt. If they’re unable to feature today, figuring a way to roll them into the regular season rotation only gets tougher. Look out for one or more of those new faces when the action touches off this afternoon.
