New York City FC confirms senior team roster for 2017

Who’s in, who’s out?

MLS: Sporting KC vs New York City FC Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

NYCFC officially revealed its first-team roster for the 2017 MLS season today, the third in team history. This is a much younger group than we’ve seen, with twelve new faces joining the ranks.

Today’s news included an announcement of the long-anticipated departure of Mix Diskerud. The US international midfielder’s contract has been bought out, freeing up his roster spot and salary cap hit. Check out Raf’s story for more info on Mix’s departure.

Two rookies, two professional trialists, and a new designated player feature among the new additions this year, as well as two players on loan from other clubs. Sure, 16 year old scion !!!JAMES SANDS!!! didn’t make the final cut, but you’ve got to admit that this is really, really talented and athletic group, folks. The competition will be fierce at just about every spot on the team sheet. With just three more days to wait before New York City kicks off its season in Orlando, things are finally feeling real.

Bring it on.
