ONCE upon a time, there was a man named Mikkel Morgenstar Pålssønn Diskerud. We might have have seen him ‘round these parts.
I kid. Mix was once highly celebrated around here; the team spared no expense putting him up on a pedestal right up there with Lampard and Villa, and why not? I mean, the dude inherited Landon Donovan’s number 10 shirt.
For a lot of reasons, it didn’t work out. But the man did score the first goal ever in team history, and as we like to say in the history profession, That Is Not Nothing™. In fact, it is quite a something.
Anyway, after New York City cut ties with him — it’s a loan, but c’mon, let’s be serious now — Diskerud went back to where the fika is standard, the sun sets rarely, and the furniture is bog-standard and comes with stick people. I speak of the land of Sweden. Diskerud plays midfield for IFK Göteborg, who are one of the giant teams in Swedish soccer — think, say, AC Milan.
Yesterday, they played Sirius, and in the 63rd minute, this happened:
MIX SCORES! MIX SCORES! MIX SCORES!
Seriously, that’s awesome. It’s good to see Sir Mix-a-lot doing OK. Scoring isn’t really Mix’s thing (he only scored three times for Rosenborg), but let’s hope he can be an impact player for Göteborg. They currently lead the Tippeligaen after two matches.
