Hat trick hero David Villa named MLS Player of the Week

More plaudits for the GuajeGod.

Three goals, three points, and the top spot in the Golden Boot race ain’t bad.

But don’t let it get lost in the shuffle: David Villa is also your Alcatel MLS Player of the Week.

“I’ve scored a lot of doubles. I never did a hat trick,” Villa told NYCFC.com. “But it's important because we needed it [Sunday] and we needed one more goal. And it's important because we were able to achieve all three points.”

“A great day for us, great day for the club.”

This is Villa’s second time receiving the league’s official Player of the Week honors in 2017: remember when he bagged his 50th and 51st MLS goals on a wet day in the Bronx against Seattle?

This week’s heroics place him alongside Miguel Almiron, Nemanja Nikolic, and Sebastian Giovinco as the only players to receive the PotW accolade twice on the year.

We love you, Guaje. We do.

Please never retire.
