New York City FC have signed center back Cedric Hountondji, the team announced Thursday. The French native and Benin international joins NYCFC on a free transfer following the end of his contract with Ligue 2 club Gazélec Ajaccio.

“It’s an honor to be here, I am really happy,” Hountondji told NYCFC.com. “I am full of motivation and ready to give everything I have to the club.”

According to head coach Patrick Vieira, the tall and athletic Hountondji — who turns 24 later this month — is “dominant aerially and physically” and exceptional at man-marking and distributing the ball from the back.

Hudson River Blue welcomes Cedric to the club and are excited to see him on the Etihad Pitch very soon!
