Let’s put this as simply as we can: the New York City FC that we see today is mostly Patrick Vieira’s team. This club is tailor-made to suit the former French gaffer’s style and tactics, something that has become abundantly clear since Domé Torrent’s takeover of the Blues this summer. To put it bluntly, the Catalan manager has struggled to find prolonged tactical prowess thus far.
However, fans will be relieved to know that despite not everything looking all that great right now, three very important players have agreed to continue the fight and try to adjust to the changing times.
On Thursday, NYCFC announced that midfielder Alexander Ring, center back Alexander Callens, and goalkeeper Sean Johnson have all inked new deals with the Bronx Blues.
The announcement — which can be viewed in full here — did not disclose the specific details regarding the new contracts, but says that they are all “multi-year” deals.
Ring, Callens, and Johnson have all played pivotal roles in establishing NYCFC as a top club in MLS. Since arriving to the Bronx in 2017, Ring has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league, while Callens has solidified himself as NYCFC’s iron man, playing every minute of every regular season game last season. Johnson arrived in 2016 and has been a huge part in keeping City in those tight games.
We here at Hudson River Blue couldn’t be more excited to see these three returning for more years to come.
