One of the most shocking names on New York City FC’s list of players whose options they declined was that of center back Maxime Chanot. As a matter of fact, of all the contract options that NYCFC chose to decline, Chanot’s was arguably the only one we looked with confusion.
However, I am confused no more! This morning, NYCFC announced that Chanot has inked a new “multi-year deal” with the Bronx Blues.

Chanot is the latest City player to be given a new, long-term deal with the club following Alexander Ring, Sean Johnson, and Alexander Callens doing the same shortly before the end of the 2018 season. What all four of these players have in common is that they are among the biggest difference makers on the team and all have extensive — if not exclusive — defensive duties for Boys in Blue. And in a league as unpredictable and physical as MLS, having a strong core at the back is absolutely vital to success.
The Luxembourg international has been with NYCFC since 2016 and has appeared 43 times in well over 3,500 minutes. Welcome back, Max!
