In an effort to bring in quality talent at the eleventh hour of the January transfer window, New York City FC have reportedly secured one more piece to bolster their 2018 squad.

VfB Stuttgart midfielder Ebenezer Ofori will join the Boys in Blue on a one-year loan, according to GHANASoccernet.com. The Ghanaian midfielder is said to be arriving in New York next week to undergo a medical evaluation before officially joining the club. GHANASoccernet.com also reports that NYCFC manager Patrick Vieira requested Ofori’s services personally and has promised to further develop his skill set. At this moment, it remains unclear as to whether or not the loan deal would include an option to buy.

Ofori, 22, has struggled for playing time since joining Stuttgart in January of 2017 from Swedish club AIK Solna. To date, he only has nine appearances with the first team and has been largely unused.

According to his Transfermarkt profile, Ofori — whose market value is said to be in excess of $1.6 million — plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, though he is also capable of playing left back, as well as the left midfielder spot in a three-back formation. He has appeared six times for Ghana’s senior national team, scoring once for the Black Stars. Ofori also previously appeared for Ghana’s U-20 team.

WhoScored.com lists Ofori’s strengths as his passing, through balls, dribbling, and long shots. While his reported weaknesses are both aerial duels and discipline.

NYCFC previously pursued Ofori prior to the 2017 season while he was still a member of Solna, before he ultimately decided to try his luck in Germany’s Bundesliga.
