Cedric Hountondji has surgery on ruptured hamstring tendon

The French defender will start rehab after 6 weeks

MLS: 2018 Portraits USA TODAY Sports

Center back Cedric Hountondji made his first appearance with New York City FC in their US Open Cup matchup against the New York Red Bulls on June 6. Unfortunately, his shift proved to be more of a cameo after the French defender sustained an injury early in the second half.

Earlier today, Hountondji posted an update on his Instagram page announcing that he has had successful surgery to repair the tendon and will begin physical rehab in six weeks.

Due to the severity of the injury and the extensive recovery time post-op, Hountondji shouldn’t be expected to be back with the first team until the latter stages of the season, if not completely eliminate him from competition in 2018 altogether.

We here at Hudson River Blue wish Cedric the swiftest of recoveries and hope to see him back in the mix soon.

Seriously, that $220,000 paycheck is no joke.
