After winning three games in seven days and featuring prominently in arguably the best week in club history, New York City FC’s Sean Johnson and Alex Callens were given MLS Team of the Week honors for Week 20.
Both Johnson and Callens were instrumental in providing NYCFC with 9 points in one week and also earned three clean sheets in the process. Offensively, wingers Jesus Medina and Jonathan Lewis made the bench after also putting in several quality shifts in the hectic week.
Additionally, Medina was given the seemingly unrelated Alcatel MLS Player of the Week.
How a player can earn an individual honor like “Player of the Week” and is still left off of the TotW’s first team is beyond me. Then again, MLS isn’t a stranger to confusing, it not outright arbitrary statistical measurements.
Regardless of that, we at Hudson River Blue give our biggest congratulations to Johnson, Callens, Medina, and Lewis and thank them for their immense contributions this past week.
