24 hours removed from their 2-0 victory against Orlando City, New York City FC have announced that they have acquired midfielder Valentin Castellanos from fellow City Football Group team Club Atletico Torque.

The 19-year-old Argentinean joins on a loan that is to last until the end of the 2018 season, with an option to buy. He is currently awaiting his P1 Visa and ITC before joining up with the team in the States.

“I want to win trophies with NYCFC and, with the type of players I’ve seen and studied, we can try to do that,” Castellanos told NYCFC.com. “My focus now is to train with the team and get to know my teammates. I’m looking forward to giving my very best.”

According to manager Domé Torrent, Castellanos — who has primarily been deployed as a no. 10 to this point — is capable of playing a plethora of different positions and can fill many needs. On Castellanos’ versatility, Torrent said, ““Valentin is a fast, young player who can play as a no.7, as a no.11, or even as a no.9 as he did in his last three games with Torque. He has a lot of quality one-v-one and he has a lot of energy. He will improve our attacking, especially when the team wants to play a bit deeper and we want to get in behind.”

We here at Hudson River Blue extend our warmest welcomes to Castellanos and hope that he can provide a huge boost to our club’s performances in the future.
