As impressive as Domé Torrent’s run has been with New York City FC to this point, it’s worth noting that it has been done without the services of captain and all-time NYCFC leading goal scorer David Villa.
Unfortunately, Torrent’s City will have to continue to make due without El Guaje for at least one more week.
NYCFC have announced that Villa — who sustained a knee injury last month in a game against Toronto FC — has withdrawn from the MLS All-Star game against Juventus tomorrow night. Per MLS rules, Villa will also be forced to miss NYCFC’s next contest against the Vancouver Whitecaps this Saturday.

David automatically misses Saturday’s game vs. Vancouver, per @MLS policy.

I can go on and on about this ridiculous rule that requires a club’s top-tier player to play in a completely useless glorified exhibition match. But for now, I’ll wish Villa the best in his recovery and also extend my best wishes to our very own Alex Ring, who will be participating in his first ever All-Star game.
If there is any justice in this world, both Villa and Ring will still receive their MLS Team of the Season cards in FIFA 18 this week — if EA decides to release it, that is.
