“Knee-Jerk Reactions” is Hudson River Blue’s series of what we were thinking throughout the match. These were our unfiltered thoughts as they played out in real time — no editing, no revisions. Just raw, pure emotion.
Here is what I thought of New York City FC’s awful 2-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Union:
First Half
2’: What a play from City. Close, but no cigar
5’: ITS’s skill on the ball never fails to impress me
10’: Maxi needs to make that
26’: Philly has the momentum right now
32’: WHY ISN’T THERE A SHOT TAKEN THERE!? LIKE, WHAT!?
43’: That was a soft call
HT: With the Red Bulls hot on their tail, NYCFC can’t afford to draw right now
Second Half
46’: Scary start. We gotta wake up...
48’: Is it just me, or did Maxi change his boots at halftime?
51’: That’s two wasted chances from Philly now in this half. City has to make them pay
57’: I know there’s still time. But that feels like game over. Terrible performance thus far. Also, why is David Villa already out?
72’: This is getting bad. NYC needs a goal, and right now
76’: Well, there’s the game. Poor on every level. Absolutely unacceptable performance
90’+5: Ronald Matarrita sent off for the dumbest tackle I’ve ever seen
FT: Yuck.
