“Knee-Jerk Reactions” is Hudson River Blue’s series of what we were thinking throughout the match. These were our unfiltered thoughts as they played out in real time — no editing, no revisions. Just raw, pure emotion.
Here were my reactions to New York City FC’s stinging 2-1 loss to the the Columbus Crew:
First Half
PG: I honestly have no idea how Rodney Wallace continues to feature in the 18, much less the starting lineup. The Costa Rican winger has consistently been underwhelming on the pitch and has failed to provide much of value since May of last year. Meanwhile, players like Jonathan Lewis must be limited to bench duty, despite constant impressive performances. That’s a poor example to set.
1’: A really solid chance in the opening minute. I really hope that doesn’t come to bit us
12’: Still a stalemate here, though City have had the majority of the chances
28’: I’d like to see T-Mac push up a bit more. He’s always been an opportunist.
33’: I just had a heart attack
42’: SeanJohn with the boss save!
45’+1: Not a fan of how we played there. Started off fine, but almost let it get out of control
Second Half
47’: Too close for comfort. Again
53’: GRAB SOME TAJOURI SAUCE!!!! 1-0
61’: Well, that lead was nice while it lasted
63’: We look like a mess now
75’: A loss is terrible, and a draw isn’t good enough. The goals better come soon.
90’+3: I honestly can’t bring myself to care about this team right now. What an absolute dud of a performance
90’+7: Whatever.
