Héber, Sean Johnson, and Domé Torrent named as candidates for yearly MLS rewards

Finally, some respect!

MLS: New York Red Bulls at New York City FC Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports

For New York City FC fans, the team’s transition from rocky start to complete Eastern Conference domination was a big one. For the rest of the league, however, NYCFC’s ascension to the top of the East seemed to be a bit more quiet.

Despite their silent dominance, three of NYCFC’s own have been named to the shortlist of some of the league’s most prestigious awards.

Héber — star forward and late addition to City’s current squad — has been nominated for Newcomer of the Year, Domé Torrent has been nominated for Coach of the Year, and netminder Sean Johnson has been nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year.

In 25 games, Héber scored 15 goals and assisted four others. Johnson played in net 29 games this season, making 78 saves and logging 7 clean sheets. Last but not least, Domé Torrent was able to rally the troops and reverse a disastrous start to the season, leading NYCFC to a final record of 18-10-6 (W-D-L), good for 64 points which is the best in team history.

All three are deserving of adulation and should be strongly considered as the recipients of these awards. Congratulations, Boys!

Now, let’s win a Cup!
