It’s not quite silly season just yet. Nonetheless, the first winter transfer rumor pertaining to New York City FC has emerged.

Emanuel Rosu — Romanian football journalist and Ballon D’or juror — has reported that NYCFC have gotten in contact with Romanian club FCSB in effort to procure the services of winger Florinel Coman. The purported transfer fee? €10 million (about $10.97 million USD).

For those of you unaware of him, Coman — who is 21 years old — is a star winger in Liga I, Romania’s top flight league. Nicknamed “Mbappe” after French superstar Kylian Mbappe, Coman is known for his pace and technical ability, and has been featured heavily in Romania’s youth international program.

Though primarily a left winger that likes to cut inside onto his dominant right foot, Coman is also capable of playing on both the right wing and at center forward. Prior to being linked to NYCFC, Coman has also drawn interest from Chelsea in the Premier League, as well as Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

NYCFC capturing the highly rated Coman would mark the second time within a year the Bronx Blues have looked to Romania for talent, with the first obviously being City’s newest Designated Player Alexandru Mitrita who has emerged as a top player after an initial adjustment phase.
