The 2019 MLS Expansion Draft is upon us. Beginning at 5:30 PM (EST), both Inter Miami and Nashville SC will be given five picks each to select players that have been listed as unprotected by their current clubs.
Currently, New York City FC have 13 unprotected players that are eligible for the Expansion Draft this evening. They are as follows:
1. Luis Barraza
2. Daniel Bedoya
3. Jeff Caldwell
4. Sebastien Ibeagha
5. Gary Mackay-Steven
6. Jesus Medina
7. Eric Miller
8. Abdi Mohamed
9. Ebenezer Ofori
10. Tony Rocha
11. Brad Stuver
12. Ben Sweat
13. Juan Pablo Torres
Of these players, Ben Sweat and Sebastien Ibeagha have emerged as early favorites for selection by either Miami or Nashville. MLSSoccer.com’s Matt Doyle has also pointed to Young DP Jesus Medina as a juicy target for the two expansion clubs.
Clubs can only lose a maximum of one player in the Expansion Draft. Therefore, should NYCFC have a player drafted by either Miami or Nashville, every other player on their roster is safe from further picks.
