YES Network announces 2019 NYCFC broadcast schedule

22 games will be televised, six of which will not be on live TV

New York City FC has announced that the YES Network will broadcast 22 of the club’s games in 2019. But there is some cause for concern.

Here’s the full broadcast schedule, as posted by Kyle Schnitzer of the New York Post on Twitter:

You see all of those games that are marked with an “&” at the end of them? Yeah, those are games that will not be televised live and will instead be broadcast live via the Fox Sports GO app due to conflicting times with the New York Yankees, with NYCFC’s game being shown at a later time following the usual Yankees coverage.

This is unacceptable. Part of the club’s growth is dependent upon how easily the games can be watched on TV. Many people — believe it or not — still haven’t really gotten into streaming live sports. And showing games on a tape delay in the wee hours of the night is not really the most convenient for these fans.

Below is a list of all of the games that will be streamed live on the Fox Sports GO app in 2019:

That is 6 games out of the 22 that YES is supposed to provide coverage for. For further context, that is about 27% of YES’s live coverage of NYCFC that is relegated to an app. An app!

Obviously, this is nothing new to NYCFC fans who have had to deal with this type of stuff for better part of the past three years. And until YES decides to start consistently provide more programming on YES2, this will be the norm.

Oh well.
