FT: NYCFC and D.C. United play to a 0-0 draw in NYCFC’s home opener in the Bronx.
City will be kicking themselves after that one, having several chances in the dying minutes to put a goal in and grab 3 points. But you gotta tip your hat to DCU, who came in with a good game plan to overload their own box and keep the home side off the board
89’: A big two saves by Bill Hamid to deny NYCFC of a late winner.
80’: So close for Mitrita there
75’: Jonathan Lewis is in for Taty Castellanos
69’: Ismael Tajouri-Shradi comes on for Jesus Medina. This is the impact sub they need.
57’: Different half, same story. NYCFC possesses, but nothing in the way of scoring.
We’re back at it with the second half! Can NYCFC find their goal?
HT: NYCFC and DC United remain tied at 0-0 as the first 45 minutes elapses.
City has controlled the game thus far, but can’t find the ingredients to put it together in the attacking third with most of their distribution going east-to-west. Still, there’s something to be said for 70-30 possession numbers against a team as good as DCU.
30’: For better or worse, this is the NYCFC we are accustomed to seeing. Dominating possession, keeping the ball in the opposing half... all they’re missing is the goal.
19’: Mitrita has been electric in the first 20 minutes. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a goal from him today.
11’: HUGE save from Sean Johnson to keep the game level.
10’: Sloppy game thus far. Tons of fouls and failed passes for both teams.
Annnnnnnd... we’re off! It’s nice to be back in the Bronx!
Rosters are out! And I’m a little confused.
Taty Castellanos and Jesus Medina both get their first starts for the home opener. How Ismael Tajouri-Shradi has yet to find himself in the starting lineup — even this early in the season — is baffling to me. Happy to see James Sands back, though.
