Talking about New York City FC’s first team has become a depressing experience. So let’s give the young boys some of the spotlight!

Suffice it to say that if you’re an NYCFC fan, odds are you hate the New York Red Bulls. I’m no exception. So whenever a result goes our way, I’m all over it! Even if it’s at the Academy level.

And over the weekend, the Baby Blues put in some serious work against our neighbors in New Jersey. How much work, you ask? Well, they cruised past them to the tune of 6-0.

Here are the full length highlights:

For those who don’t know, the Red Bulls have a pretty awesome academy that has produced some really good talent in the past few years, with RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and Chelsea’s Matt Miazga as the most recent and notable examples. So this emphatic win should not be taken for granted.

NYCFC midfielder Jonathan Jimenez had a particularly stellar game, netting 4 goals. with the remaining two coming from midfielder Andres Jasson and defender Veljko Petkovich. Newest first team signing Justin Haak also played a full 90 minutes.

It’s clear and obvious that the future is bright when it comes to City’s burgeoning academy system. And if NYCFC can commit to giving some of these kids a chance at first team minutes in the future, much like they have with James Sands this season, it can definitely free up some much-needed cap space in the future for bigger supplemental signings.

Good work, boys! Keep working and maybe we’ll see you at the MLS level in no time.
