New York City FC’s goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been given an opportunity to feature for the USMNT in the 2019 Gold Cup. And now, another NYCFC fan favorite will have a shot at international glory.

Center back Alexander Callens has been given the call-up to represent Peru in the 2019 Copa América.

To date, the 27-year-old Callens has represented Los Incas 11 times since his first call-up in 2013. This year’s Copa America will be the first time NYCFC ironman will represent his country in a major tournament.

This year’s Copa América takes place in Brazil and will run from June 14 all the way through July 7. Within that span, NYCFC will have three games and may need to call upon backups like Sebastien Ibeagha to pick up the slack.
