New York City FC’s 4-0 rout against North Carolina FC in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup undoubtedly has fans buzzing for the future. After all, it’s the club’s first-ever win in Open Cup play since their inception. And having done it in such dominant fashion with a collection of backups and rotational players, fans of the Bronx Blues are likely anxious to see more.
US Soccer held the draw for the USOC’s Round of 16 earlier today. And it has been learned that D.C. United will be their next opponent in America’s oldest soccer competition.

The date of the contest wasn’t confirmed upon the time of drawing. However, it has since been announced by MLS that the game will take place on Wednesday, June 19 at Audi Field in the nation’s capital.
Unlike their bout against North Carolina in which they were strapped for squad players to fill out the squad, NYCFC should have a more broad selection of players to choose from next Wednesday. Ebenezer Ofori is returning to NYC from an international camp with Ghana and Alexander Ring should be returning from a minor knee injury.
If there’s any time for NYCFC to make a deep cup run, it’s now. The depth of the club seems to be as good as it’s ever been. Plus, players like Keaton Parks, Juan Pablo Torres, and Justin Haak are chomping at the bit to prove to Domé Torrent why they should be select on regular season gamedays as well. This kind of motivation is paramount in winning competitions such as these.
I honestly can’t wait for next week!
