No New York City FC players selected to 2019 MLS All-Star game

It’s both good and bad

MLS: U.S. Open Cup-North Carolina FC at NYCFC Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier today, Major League Soccer announced the Starting XI for the upcoming MLS All-Star game against Atletico Madrid on July 31. Many of the names you’d expect to see are on it: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Nani, etc. But there’s one problem...

THERE ARE NO NEW YORK CITY FC PLAYERS IN IT!

I get that these things are voted in by fans. But, really? No Maxi Moralez? Ismael Tajouri-Shradi hasn’t scored enough goals? Is James Sands no longer the best f’n American player in the league? Answer me!

Obviously, to many fans, this will be a relief; after all, you don’t have to worry about losing a key player to injury in what is ultimately a useless, meaningless game. So there’s that.

But (yes, there is a “but”), for Ultimate Team players like me, this absolutely sucks. Assuming FIFA 19 will follow past practices when choosing their Team of the Season cards, the MLS TOTS will be chosen based solely on who makes the All-Star team. And who doesn’t want to destroy god squads in Weekend League with a 5’3 Argentinean genius!?

The answer is no one!
