In the press release, NYCFC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna stated that Mackay-Steven is an “out-and-out winger that can play on both sides of pitch and strengthens our attacking options.”
Mackay-Steven is the latest addition to a an NYCFC squad that is already pretty deep when it comes their options at the winger position. As of right now, City’s attacking options consists of Alexandru Mitrita, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Jesus Medina, and Taty Castellanos. Additionally, striker Héber and midfielder Maxi Moralez can also play the wing in a pinch.
Where the veteran Scotsman fits into Domé Torrent’s scheme is anyone’s guess. But more depth is always a good thing.
GMS will join the team upon his receiving of a P-1 visa and ITC. He will be eligible to play when the secondary transfer window opens on July 9.
