New York City 2, Colorado 1 — as it happened!

NYCFC power past the Rapids 2-1 by way of goals from Héber and Mitrita

MLS: New York City FC at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

FT: NYCFC defeat Colorado 2-1 in a game that wasn’t as close as the one on the scoresheet.

City possessed the ball for 80% of this match and were up a man for almost 67% of it. They seemed wasteful in front of the net at many points, but they got enough goals to get the three points and get back to their winning ways.

83’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!! Alexandru Mitrita scores the potential game winner!

The Romanian took one big touch, lined it up, and laced it past Irwin. 2-1 NYCFC

80’: Jesus Medina comes on for Taty Castellanos.

73’: Yikes! Héber needs to score that one. Hopefully, that doesn’t come back to get him.

63’: Alexandru Mitrita comes on for Ibeagha.

52’: So close for Keaton Parks! The young American is still looking for his first MLS goal.

The second half is underway. Can NYCFC find the go-ahead goal?

HT: NYCFC and Colorado sit at a 1-1 impasse.

City have been the better team by far. But one mistake gave the Rapids a goal early. Since then, not only has NYCFC equalized — they are also up a man following a Colorado sending off. The Blues are in the driver’s seat.

40’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!! Héber continues to score at will!

It was a beautifully lobbed ball into the box. The Brazilian forward chested it down then blasted it. We’re tied 1-1.

33’: Colorado goes down a man! Sebastian Anderson is sent off following a dangerous and ugly challenge on Ronald Matarrita. Let’s see if the one-man advantage can make a difference for NYCFC.

26’: Colorado is just sitting back and daring NYCFC to make something happen. And props to ‘em. Ibeagha’s mistake led to a goal and the Rapids know they don’t have the firepower to compete.

15’: Miscommunication between Tinnerholm and Ibeagha almost proves costly.

City look incredibly sloppy right now. They need to be better.

5’: Colorado draws first blood.

Jonathan Lewis dances around Ibeagha and caps if off with the assist. Mind you, he couldn’t impress either Domé or Vieira

We’re off in Colorado!

Kickoff is now scheduled for 9:38 PM EST.

Opening kickoff has been delayed to an undisclosed time. Apparently, there is some severe storms travelling through Colorado right now.

All-time series: With New York City FC a week removed from a controversial 2-1 loss against the New York Red Bulls, it’s easy for the average fan to complete overlook tonight’s matchup against Colorado Rapids. But that would be a mistake.

This is a rough road trip to a rough place to play. Plus, the Rapids have Jonathan Lewis who is more than happy to get one over on his old team for leaving him to sit on the bench for two years.

Also, it’s worth noting that NYCFC is currently on a two-game skid (three games all competitions) and will be missing key players Maxime Chanot and Alex Ring due to yellow card accumulation. But the Boys in Blue will be happy to have James Sands and Alexandru Mitrita available for selection, so who knows how this could go?

All-time, NYCFC have yet to lose against Colorado in four matches, with two wins and two draws to their name.

This post will update with highlights and information as we receive it.
