A few weeks after singing with the club on a free transfer, winger Gary Mackay-Steven has officially reported to his first practice with New York City FC. Upon arriving, the former Aberdeen man was also given squad number 17 which was last worn by Jonathan Lewis before the latter was traded to the Colorado Rapids two months ago.

By far the funniest occurrence in GMS’s first training session was NYCFC staff hilariously commenting on the winger’s resemblance to midfielder Keaton Parks, which can be seen at 2:03 in the video below.

Though the winger could come in handy tomorrow against the Portland Timbers due to some untimely injuries, Mackay-Steven will not be eligible to play with NYCFC until after the official opening of the transfer window on July 9. This makes the Scotsman available for both the U.S. Open Cup match against Orlando City on July 10, as well as the Hudson River Derby against the New York Red Bulls — the first of two this season — on July 14.

We look forward to seeing Mackay-Steven in action next week.
