Ebenezer Ofori officially ruled out against Columbus

With James Sands on the mend, another defensive midfielder will be forced to miss action this week

After sustaining a broken collarbone over the weekend against FC Cincinnati, James Sands’ season is highly in question and leaves a gap in both the defensive midfield and the back-three. But the Sandman isn’t the only defensive midfielder who won’t be playing this week.

New York City FC’s weekly injury report has revealed that Ebenezer Ofori will also be unavailable against Columbus Crew SC tomorrow at Yankee Stadium.

Ofori was listed as questionable against Cincinnati with a knee injury, leading some to believe it was only a minor setback. But it may be worse than we thought seeing as he has been outright omitted from this week’s squad. The Ghanaian loan from VfB Stuttgart joins the usual suspects — Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Joe Scally, and the newly-added Sands — on the inactive list.

Though it can be said that Keaton Parks has become the first choice No. 8 in recent weeks, Ebe is a very useful hand in the midfield off the bench. Ofori has appeared for NYCFC a total of 17 times this season — 13 of those games being starts — and has netted 2 goals thus far.

We wish Ebe a speedy recovery,
