The difference in quality of New York City FC’s play with and without star midfielder Maxi Moraelz is night and day. We saw it firsthand this past Wednesday when City looked largely lethargic in the attack against Toronto FC in what was an ugly and controversial 1-1 draw. Moralez was out due to yellow card accumulation and was ineligible to play.
Unfortunately, it’s looking likely that NYCFC will have to fare without the star Argentinian for at least one more matchup.
Glenn Crooks has reported that team manager Domé Torrent has ruled out Moralez for Saturday’s home game against the San Jose Earthquakes due to a minor hamstring injury.
Maxi Moralez is listed "Questionable" on the #MLS injury report but #NYCFC coach Dome Torrent said today that he will not play Sat. w/ slight hamstring issue. The potential impact for @NYCFC? City is winless in the last 8 matches w/out Moralez (0-5-3) #MLS @MLS #NYCvSJ #quakes74— Glenn Crooks (@GlennCrooks) September 13, 2019
As Crooks pointed out, NYCFC are winless in their last 8 matches without Moralez and goal creation will be hard to come by without the third-year DP.
Let’s hope City come out with a fire this time around. Because if they are to continue setting the pace and remain atop the Eastern Conference, they’re gonna have to win on Saturday.
