I’ve said it ad nauseam on the site before that Maxi Moralez is by far New York City FC’s most important player. Héber has obviously been a brilliant goalscorer, Taty Castellanos has improved immensely since last season, and Maxime Chanot is probably one of the top-three defenders in all of MLS.
But at the end of the day, it all runs through Maxi. And his 18 assists and 7 goals on the year is a testament to that. And because of numbers like these, NYCFC is seemingly scrambling to keep the diminutive playmaker with the club through at least 2020.
According to a report from John Rojas, Moralez — whose contract expires after this season — has been offered a contract extension from New York City.
Finally what many #NYCFC people has been waiting to hear .... club offered an extension of contract to Maxi Moralez ... player’s rep and team’s front office will get together this month to sort things out #MLS ... @RobAbramowitz @GlennCrooks @tkolker @JuanMapu @arieljudas
— John E. Rojas (@jrojasa75) September 3, 2019
Specific details on the alleged contract offer have not been disclosed, but Rojas has stated that both NYCFC and Moralez plan to begin negotiating proper sometime this month.
News of Moralez remaining with NYCFC through at least next season should receive a warm reception from City fans. The Argentinian has been instrumental in the team’s recent run of good form and having a player that integral to your club’s foundation return for the forseeable future is always a relief.
We hope to have something further to report on this matter in the near-future.
