The 2020 MLS Superdraft has come and gone without much buzz. Outside of some “top-end” college talent like Robbie Robinson, Ryan Raposo, and Daryl Dike, the entire draft is pretty much a guessing game. Even the top picks all raise questions and rarely become more than an MLS starter. With that being said, the Superdraft has produced some very talented products in the past and in the future. MLS legends like Taylor Twellman, Chad Marshell, and Clint Dempsey have all come from the Superdraft. Recently, success stories have come from players like Julian Gressel, Andre Blake, Walker Zimmerman, and former New York City FC winger, Jack Harrison. Other draft picks throughout the years have churned out solid MLS careers.

Outside of my love for the Penn State Nittany Lions and their MAC Hermann finalist midfielder and Portland Timbers draft pick Arron Malloy, I have little to no knowledge of the talent in college soccer. So, let’s dive into the unknown world of college soccer together. NYCFC posses the 22nd, 48th, 74th, and 100th overall pick in this year’s Superdraft. Follow along as NYCFC dive into this year’s draft.

Pick 22- Jesus Perez

NYCFC decided to go to the University of Illinois at Chicago to pick Midfielder Jesus “Chico” Perez with the 22nd pick. The Waukegan, IL native played 4 years of collegiate soccer, starting at Akron for his freshman year then transferring to UI Chicago for his final three years. Throughout his college career, Perez bagged 14 goals and 28 assists. His best goal output came this past season where he had 6 goals and his best assist output came his junior year where he accumulated 12 assists.

I have never seen him play so I can’t comment on his on the field play, but type in his name on google and a very interesting story pops up. Perez went on trial with Irish league side Dundalk FC recently and nothing seemed to come of it officially. But, according to his TINDER PROFILE, he’s a player for Dundalk FC and his Tinder match decided to screenshot his profile and share it with the world. So thank God for the SuperDraft, you always find ways to amaze me.

On a serious note, Perez could add depth to the midfield if the club decides to keep him, but I don’t see him getting any serious minutes at all this year. But who really knows?
