Losing to the Columbus Crew 3-1 on Sunday was bad enough for New York City FC. At this phase of the season, results are paramount if you want to ensure that you have a chance to play one-and-done playoff games at home on your own turf. But for NYCFC, things are shaping to go from bad to worse as they attempt to push themselves up the table.
After receiving yellow cards against the Crew this past weekend, striker Taty Castellanos as well as veteran center back Maxime Chanot will both be suspended for City’s Saturday game against the Montreal Impact due to yellow card accumulation.
For City, Castellanos’ suspension is sure to be a huge blow as he is the only striker left on the team’s roster following Héber’s season ending ACL injury last month. So any replacement for him up top is sure to be makeshift at best.
As for Chanot, the team does have a true replacement in Sebastien Ibeagha waiting in the wings. Even so, Chanot is a leader on the team and his services are hard to replicate on the field.
When asked about replacing them for the game against the Impact next weekend, Deila couldn’t give a definitive answer.
“I think it’s way too early to think about what we’re going to do next week,” Deila said. “But we have enough players to have a good team on Saturday.”
