FT: NYCFC takes home a beautiful, refreshing, spicy 5-2 win over the Red Bulls in a cathartic edition of the Hudson River Derby!

After a topsy-turvy first half, the Boys in Blue put the pedal to the metal in the second, netting three unanswered goals that included a banger from Alex Ring, including the final two goals for Taty to collect his hat trick.

This is the first time New York City have really blown out their Jersey-based rivals. And it feels so damn good!

89’: I’m not gonna lie, I wanna see another goal. Bury them!

83’: PENALTY! Maxi is brought down in the box!

Taty Castellanos steps up to take it for the hat trick and... NAILS IT!!!! It’s 5-2 City!

76’: GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! Taty gets his brace!

Gary plays a dangerous ball into the area. It deflects off a Bulls defender, but right to Castellanos who touches it down with his chest and fires it in! 4-2 City, and that should be enough!

68’: Keaton Parks goes into the book for denying a Red Bull counter

63’: Taty is back on the field and seems to be all good. We can all breathe now.

61’: Uh-oh. Taty seems to be hurt. And NYCFC don’t have any other strikers available to them.

60’: There still could be more goals in this one. This game is wide open and both sides are finding a lot of space in transition.

57’: GMS calls for a foul from behind, but replay shows it was clean.

Alex Ring receives the throw-in. The Ringleader simply puts his head down and unleashes perhaps the shot we’ve seen all year — from distance, bar down. WOW! City lead 3-2!

We’re back for the second half! Can New York City and dig deep to pull out a huge win over their Jersey-based rivals?

HT: NYCFC and the Bulls play to a 2-2 stalemate in the first half.

We’ve got a game, folks! City started the scoring with Taty Castellanos pulling the Blues ahead. The Bulls’ Brian White was able to equalize with a very well placed shot before Casseres pulled the Jersey Boys ahead 2-1. But New York City would have the last laugh when Gary Mackay-Steven once again pulled the game level with a delicate finish late in the frame.

This has all the makings of an all out slugfest.

45’: Taty almost grabs his brace. But he’s ruled offside. Close as close can get.

42’: GOOOOOOAAALLL!!! NYCFC level it!

Maxi picks out Taty who redirects the ball ever so slightly into the path of a hustling Gary Mackay-Steven. The Scotsman plays a great touch towards goal and takes his shot. Meara gets a touch on it, but it’s not enough. We’re tied 2-2!

38’: City are caught napping again as the Bulls pull ahead.

The Blues once again fail to clear the ball out from danger. Casseres takes a shot hat deflects off a defender and trickles into the net. New Jersey lead 2-1.

30’: Medina flirts with goal again. But Meara makes an emergency stop.

The ensuing corner sees Medina almost assist on a scintillating cross.

24’: NYCFC still looks the better team. But that goal is sure to leave a sour taste.

18’: Jeeez. That was an unfortunate goal to concede.

City’s defenders won the ball twice, but couldn’t clear the danger. Brian White pounces and unleashes a seeing-eye goal from outside the area that sneaks past Johnson in net. We’re tied 1-1.

16’: Brilliant stuff from Medina there! The Paraguayan pressed with gusto and then evaded several RB defenders to get a dangerous shot off. That’s what we need.

12’: GOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! City pull ahead of Jersey early on!

After receiving a brilliant switch, Maxi Moralez loops in an early cross. The ball connects with Taty Castellanos who heads the ball past Ryan Meara to give NYCFC an early 1-0 lead! WELL DONE, BOYS!

6’: Sloppy, sloppy start. The Bulls don’t look great, but neither do City. The former’s signature high press is making this a scrappy one.

We’re off in the Bronx! Can NYCFC take home New York supremacy tonight?

Rosters are out! Really no surprises in this one. And that’s probably for the best. NYCFC is putting forward their best possible lineup available to them. Let’s hope it’s enough.

The story: After a controversial 1-0 loss to their rivals back in August, New York City FC again meets with arch enemies, the New York Red Bulls — this time in Yankee Stadium.

NYCFC have strung together two straight wins as they head into their final two games of the season. The Red Bulls, however, have not looked nearly as effective having only won twice in their last seven games. If there’s ever been a time for New York City to truly punish the Jersey Boys, it’s now.

With MLS announcing that points per game (PPG) will dictate playoff seeding this season, NYCFC are in need of big performances in their final two games of the season if they are to sneak into the Eastern Conference’s top four spots.

This post will update with highlights and information as we receive it.
