New York City FC have announced that Academy Director Liam Manning will be departing the club to take the vacant manager spot with second-division Belgian side Lommel SK.

The English manager took his post as NYCFC’s Academy Director in April of 2019 after having been a mainstay within West Ham United’s youth development for four years, being an assistant with the Hammers’ U-21 team before being promoted to manager for the U-23 club.

The move to Lommel makes sense as the club was recently purchased by City Football Group — NYCFC’s majority owners — back in May of this year.

Under Manning’s direction, NYCFC’s U-19 team won a second consecutive national championship, in addition to several youth staffers such as Medhi Ballouchy, Jake Roswell, and Sebastian Siclari all being given jobs on City’s senior team.

This will be Manning’s first ever first team managing job.
