Despite them returning to team training this week, New York City FC has revealed that the injury statuses of primary playmaker Maxi Moralez and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi is “uncertain” according to their most recent Keys to the Match article. Moralez previously sustained a calf injury in the MLS is Back Tournament last month, but remained available throughout the remainder of the tournament. Tajouri-Shradi, however, has been completely absent since picking up an undisclosed hamstring injury against Toronto FC in the same tournament.

We mentioned yesterday that both Maxi and ITS’s return to play could prove invaluable to NYCFC’s chances of finding their form and getting themselves back into playoff contention. Moralez solidified himself as City’s most important piece in 2019 logging 20 assists and 6 goals in 27 league appearances. Meanwhile, Tajouri-Shradi has proven to be a viable goalscorer while inverted on the right wing, scoring 17 goals in 50 total appearances since joining NYCFC prior to the 2018 season.

Without an official injury report — which doesn’t come out until tomorrow — it’s impossible to know the exact status of either Moralez of Tajouri-Shradi. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope they there are at least available off the bench for tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Fire in New Jersey.
