Three potential transfer targets for NYCFC this transfer window
By: Alejandro Izurieta
Realistic: Osaze De Rosario is a 19-year-old striker currently playing on NYCFC's U-19 team. He made his first-team debut and scored in a 2-1 loss against Palmeiras in the Florida Cup back in January 2020. In the 19-20 season for the U-19 side, he had three goals in 4 games after joining from Toronto FC's academy in March. Although the club currently has three strikers, Heber is still recovering from a Torn ACL, Jasson is breaking into the squad, and Taty establishing himself as the starting striker, De Rosario could prove a valuable backup.
Ideal: Edgar Elizalde is a 20-year-old left-back who currently plays for the Italian Serie B team, Pescara. With the departure of Ronald Mattarita to FC Cincinnati, the left-back spot is no longer one of NYCFC's strongest positions. Gudi Thorarinsson, who signed before the 19-20 season, is now Delia's only option at left-back, so ideally, the club would bring in a replacement for Ronald. Valued at around €400,000, using the Mattarita transfer money, the club could purchase this promising young talent.
Unrealistic: Alejandro "Papu" Gomez is a 32-year-old striker currently on Atalanta in Italy. Recent reports have stated that he is forcing a move after falling out with the manager, Gian Piero Gasperini. As well as playing striker, he could play winger and CAM. With Gary Mackay Steven on his way out after not resigning with the club, depth on the wings is much needed. Although NYCFC is one of the oldest sides in the MLS, an experienced player such as Papu may be the spark we need. Because of recent interest from bigger clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan and a price tag of around €16,000,000, a move to the Big Apple looks rather unrealistic. But hey, you never know!
